NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 20, 2019) –Hometown standout, Coley Ries, and Maschka, Riedy, Ries, & Frentz Law Firm, recently inked an On Player Ad Location (OPAL) agreement for the 2019 season.

The Mankato based law firm becomes the 39th OPAL partner for National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) players since the program was announced less than six months ago.

“This OPAL agreement is so special to me specifically because of two of the titled layers," commented Ries, who was traded to the Aussie Peppers shortly after their home location for 2019 was announced by the league. “The first being Jerry Maschka, the founder of the Peppers.  He has done so much for the community and the sport of softball without the proper recognition.  I was fortunate enough to play under him for a few summer seasons, and am so grateful he has become a friend, mentor, and family to me. The second being my uncle Chuck Ries, who passed away from cancer before my collegiate career really began.  His daughter was a huge influence in my softball career (where I got the number 18) and he was so supportive and present throughout my career.  It’s such an honor to represent two incredibly important people in my life and the work of their law firm.”

Ries enters her third season in the NPF, most recently playing for the Chicago Bandits in 2018. For her efforts in 2018, she was recognized in a fan voted award, for the “Play of the Year” presented by 805 Stats. Statistically in 2018, Ries had 18 appearances and 7 starts that led to a 6-0 record, with a 1.83 ERA.

As a two-time All American, Ries’s collegiate career culminated with an NCAA Division II National Championship for Minnesota State University-Mankato. For her efforts, Ries was awarded the NFCA D-II Player of the Year in the Championship season of 2017. Ries left MSU as the all-time leader in career strikeouts, (1,481), career wins (119), single season strikeouts (476) and single season wins (41).

The Aussie Peppers underwent a name change from last year’s Aussie Spirit, upon announcing their home team location switch from St. Joseph, Missouri to North Mankato, Minnesota for the 2019 season. The team, in its second complete NPF season, combines the complete Australia National Federation roster with a few Americans to increase their depth throughout a challenging 46 game NPF schedule. Ries is one of those American players.

“There is a longtime personal connection between Coley Ries and our firm,” said Jerry Maschka, partner at Maschka, Riedy, Ries, & Frentz. “I was Coley’s 16U and 18U Peppers Junior Olympic coach.  She is the niece of my deceased former partner, Chuck Ries.  We are flattered she wears our firm logo because Coley is a great player and an even better person!”

The Aussie Peppers are operated by the Mankato Peppers, youth softball organization that has existed in North Mankato for over 30 years.

The Peppers will open their 2019 season at home in North Mankato at Caswell Park on Monday, June 10, when they host the Beijing Shougang Eagles. Tickets for the home opener and all home games for the Aussie Peppers can be purchased at https://www.pepperspro.com .

National Pro Fastpitch takes the field for its 16th season in 2019 with opening day taking place on May 28th in Daytona Beach, FL at Jackie Robinson Park, when the Beijing Shougang Eagles host the Canadian Wild of Southern Illinois.
